USE OF 能 néng

 




In Chinese, the word "能" (néng) is a verb that means "can" or "to be able to." It indicates the ability or possibility of doing something. Here are a few examples of how "能" can be used in sentences:


1. 我能帮你吗?

   (Wǒ néng bāng nǐ ma?)

 Can I help you?


2. 他能说流利的英语。

   (Tā néng shuō liúlì de yīngyǔ.)

 He can speak fluent English.

   (Wǒmen néng zài zhè jiā cāntīng yòngcān ma?)

  Can we dine at this restaurant?


4. 她是一个能干的医生。

   (Tā shì yīgè nénggàn de yīshēng.)

 She is a capable doctor.


5. 我们应该相信自己,相信我们能实现梦想。

   (Wǒmen yīnggāi xiāngxìn zìjǐ, xiāngxìn wǒmen néng shíxiàn mèngxiǎng.)

  We should believe in ourselves and believe that we can achieve our dreams.


Note that "能" can also be used to indicate permission or capability in conjunction with other verbs, such as "可以" (kěyǐ) which means "can" or "may." The usage of "能" may vary depending on the context and the specific verb it is paired with.
